In 1983, we purchased a pickup truck, installed a topper, detailed the interior of the topper with carpet, and added curtains to the windows, and left for a nice trip to Arizona. Along about Nebraska, we ran into a very heavy rain storm. Upon stopping for the night, we found all of our belonging's all wet in the topper. So we thought, we'd stop in at a topper dealer in Arizona and get something to fit around the tailgate. After many topper dealers, and many blank stares later, we accepted the fact that nobody made anything that suited our needs.
When we returned to Minnesota, we inquired with several rubber manufacturers and found they made nothing that would again, suit our needs. That's when we sat down and designed the DRY-GATE, tailgate weather seal. We then had some seals made, and installed them on our topper equipped trucks, testing them through car washes, snow storms, rain storms and whatever mother nature would send our way, and it worked very well. No more messes in the back of our trucks.
